timing chain confusion Quad-4
Hello,
I got my new GTZ licenced!
And a week after I blew my head gasket.... (waterpump failed on the autobahn)
Since I'm already performing open-heart surgery on the engine, I wanted to replace a few parts. Because the cylinder head is off, the timing chain, tensioner, and so on need replacing.
The problem is: I bought S.A. GEAR 76074 without knowing, that I have a double timing chain installed.
However, I can't get the replacement parts for it. I can only get a single chain parts.....
Is the single chain a double chain replacemend?
I have a 1990 2,3 quad-4

Have you checked rockauto.com?
Re: timing chain confusion Quad-4
Single 'silent multi-link' type chain was the second design, double roller-chain was the first design carried-over from the late 1980s Quad Four engines. I don't think I've seen one carried over to the 1990 model-year before, though I've been into probably less than a dozen Quads over the years... The big problem is all the components you would need to swap to switch to the single-chain; The water-pump drive intermediate shaft sprocket, crank sprocket, both cam sprockets, chain guides, the tensioner and shoe are also different. I am also not certain if the second-design single chain components will even fit the crank and cam-shafts, though it is likely with GM. I'm not sure the water-pump intermediate-drive is even available still...
As NJ93TY suggested, check Rockauto.com, they are legitimate. If they ship to your location, they may even be the cheapest option available to you, and have most of those timing component available still.
Good luck!
