Still trying to get the Z to run and I notice that it hisses after I stop cranking for about 30 or 40 seconds. Is this normal? I hope that its going back trough the overflow line and not flooding the engine with gas. I plan on testing to see if the injectors are cutting off or not  sometime this week.

Probably normal.  You would smell the gas if it was going into the intake or exhaust.

If the noise sticks around for that long, I would think that you should be able to get your ear in there and get a really good idea of where the sound comes from.  Why keeping pulling it apart and reinstall everything if you can narrow down where the sound comes from?
Why play the guessing game?  Just so you can put it back together chance another sound showing up, now there is two weird sounds to search for.

I'm not really guessing. The hissing sound is pretty loud and comming from the fuel rail. The only thing i'm concerned about is if the injectors are still open after I turn the ignition off. If its just feeding it back trough the return line then thats fine. But I never heard an injection system still run after you cut the ignition off, maybe for a second but not as long as this does.

OK think I found the reason its not running. I pulled the fuel rail with the injectors off, fuel lines still connected. Set it in a small tub and had a neighbor watch while I cranked the engine. He said that only one injector was barely spraying   .

So I pull the fuel rail and then pulled the injectors out to see a bunch of tiny garbage, probably rust from fuel line, sitting in the top of the injector holes. So I guess my next question is is there anyplace to get the injectors cleaned? I can get injectors off a Grand Prix (I think it a GP anyway) with a 2.3 at the salvage yard but they may want a fortune for them so that why I asked about the cleaning.

Hey can you take pics of that GP at the yard?  I would like to see a GP with a quad 4.  I have heard of them having a Q4, but never seen one in person.

A W-body  woulda had an L.O. Quad in it.  I thought HO motors had higher flow injectors?

The 2.3 in the GP looked almost identical to the Z. Twin cam, same intake manifold, the only thing I noticed was the vaccum lines are in different spots though. Now that’s not to say it’s a different cam with different injectors but definitely the same engine.

Not sure on the grand prix, but the cutlass supreme could be had with a HO.
