I know alot more about oil than you think my friend. I work as a downhole tools mechanic and work with various grades daily. This isnt my first walk in the park LOL. I run 20W50 for many different reasons. First, its thicker which helps it not seep past the gaskets as easily as 5w30. Its thicker, meaning after the oil settles it is more likely to remain coated on important internal pieces that require lubrication on startup. Its not the best oil for making horsepower. Its probably the best for a high HP NA motor that requires protection in the proper areas. You always hear about people spinning rod bearings.....ever ask them what type of oil they run? A majority of them will tell you 5w30. You should do some research on motor oil and see what you come up with.

manufacturers mostly recommend 5w30 for a few reasons. after time 5w30 seems to leak past valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, etc.. So this would give the dealership business if you think about it in real life terms. Also, running 5w30 its probably the cheapest, most well known motor oil available to everyone that offers the least amount of resistance. Its also what the manufacturer recommends on most cars simply because their horsepower ratings on the vehicles were ran with 5w30 at the time of testing.

SO that being said, just because the manufacturer recommends something, doesnt make it an ideal application. Oil is entirely application dependent....meaning....if you run a supercharger or a turbo on your car, your oil requirements will not be the same as a high HP NA car. Just like running a shot of N20.. im sure if you told your manufacturer you were running N20 they would recommend something other than 5w30. Come on guys...I cant believe some of you that tune and play around with cars havent figured this stuff out yet LOL. You wonder why those bearings are getting spun.
