your beretta!

Post by spacecadetz26 »

This was spring of 2000; I wasnt looking for a beretta when i bought mine. actually an Fbody. I was browsing the newspaper ads for cars when i noticed at the bottom there was 3 cars with picture ads. one was a camaro next the beretta and something else. I looked over the camaro a bit then I saw the Z. Never noticed a Z previously. I was excited over it, so I called the people up and drove down and took a look at it. MINT condition 96 Z26 w/ 60k miles there wasnt a rock chip or single blemish on it. I ended up financing  $8k for the car on my own (at 19 it was a big step in life for me) the next week. I never even test drove it before I bought it which was a mistake because it needed some maintenance. next week we had bad storms and it got hailed on  by 3" hail.  ÂÂÂ

ÂÂÂ I still have it. right now my little sister is driving it to school everyday.  I am not sure what I am going to do with it though. It has 160k miles (trans is original and still rolling strong) its only been to 1 bfest in Louisville. it was my daily driver until the engine was acting up last winter.

It all started when my mom bought her red base brand new in 1994. Drove around with the plastic still on the seats for a year.. I was only 5 when she bought it, but drove it for the first time when I was 14. I used to take it out at night, or when she wasn't home. It had been in a couple fender benders earlier in its life but ran strong and was always reliable. I got my permit at 15 and drove the car until I was almost 17, when I got hit hard from the left at 35mph pulling out into traffic from a parking lot. Crushed the whole front left, and gave me a concussion from the force of my head slamming into the drivers window. car was totaled.

Using money I saved from working, I bought 2 months before my 18th birthday a 1994 Bright Aqua Metallic base from a dealership with 129k for $1,150. Came with an aftermarket Pioneer head unit, sub and new speakers all around. Great condition, and extremely rust free.. amazing considering it grew up in Ohio. Had it up on a lift and inspected it.. very clean. Door jams are flawless on both sides. Anyway, so I have now had it for about 14 months total. No problems with the engine, and I have been running 93 in it since I got it. My Birthday is coming up this saturday April 12th.. The big 1-9.
The reason I choose another beretta is because I remember how damn reliable my mom's was. (It was still running after it got hit in that accident.. never died on the impact). Also, it was my first car ever driving on the road myself and its sorta like my first love and not to mention I think its fun to drive and looks great.

Bought my 88 in 1999, I was working at an Auto Zone in W.V., this guy comes in and asks to have the alt. and batt. tested. I wrecked my Mustang like 2 wks before, so I was looking for a car. As I was testing this car I guess the guy saw me checking it out, I always liked the way berettas looked. He told me it was for sale for a thousand. I really started looking it over then. I went to lunch early so I could test drive it, loved it, went back to work called my mom to bring my money when she picked me up that i just bought a car.    Took it home and cleaned ,polished and dressed it up a little. Drove it to work a week later, the guy walks by it and asks me what happened to the car he sold me he didn't even recognise it. I told him he walked right by it. he went back out to look at it, and offered me 1500. shes been with me ever since

Holy old thread batman!!!

I got mine through my brother who no longer wanted to maintain it.  It was sitting on the side of his house for months and he was going to let it go with his house that was in forclosure at the time.  The only things it needed was water in the battery, a windshield, a turnsignal switch, and tires.

My 1st beretta was the 1989 GTU 5 speed I bought it from a guy I went to highschool with who at the time rebult the engine in my 91 laser I had and when I went to pickup the car I saw the GTU sitting there which he had just fixed up and repainted from it being in a front end collision, had around 185,000 on the body, less then 80,000 on the engine. I paid $2000 for it august of 98 and totalled the car january 1999.

My second beretta was a 1995 red Z26, car was babied, mint inside and out, and had 152,000 when I bought it in I wanna say june or july of 2001. Car had come into the chevy dealer that I was working at for a power steering leak and I saw the car sitting out back inside the fence. I decided to check into it so talked to the service advisor and the technician who looked at it and found out the owner did not want to fix it since he was buying a new car. I got in contact with the owner told him I wanted to buy the car from him. After talking to him he offered it to me for $250 plus replace the front struts on his pontiac montana. He bought the car brand new and it was all hwy miles traveling to ILL on business. Car was totalled in nov of 2004 by a deer.
My 3rd beretta I won on an ebay auction and only paid $50 for it. It was a bare model 1988 base. Car was in very nice shape on the body which was rust free, interior as in the seats and carpet was very nic eshape just sun faded, but the dash was a different story. As alot of u may have seen pictures looked like somebody blew the dash up with dynomite. So I replaced the head gasket and bought a mint dash from a bstuff member and put that in.  I did not own teh car topo long bought it july of 2005 and sold it april of 2006 to buy the Indy. I broke even selling the car on ebay to a person in milwaukee.
My 4th beretta was the 1990 yellow 5 speed Indy. I paid less then $350 for it from x-indy. Mark and I drove down to near columbus Mo to pickup the car. It was in sad shape and needed alot of work but the car also sat for 2 years before I drove it back to Wi. We spent around 19 hours on the road total to buy the car. I spent a ton of hours but not much money into fixing the car up and then august of this year a dumbshit driver not paying attention pulled out in front of me on the hwy and I T-boned him. So it sits on the side of my garage awaiting to be rebuilt.
Beretta number 5 is my current summer/daily driver the 1996 cayenne red Z26 that I bought in october. After going after many Z26's on ebay and losing, in october while browsing ebay I came across this car and decided to bid on it. I knew how much I had saved up to spend and I wanted the car bad enough that I put my max bid pretty high. I won the auction at $290 for it and the car was located in southern part of milwaukee. I drove 1 1/2 hours to pickup the car on a car dolley. I had to put a new engine in but thanks to mark I had a spare engine laying around I got for free. So stripped the engine down replaced every gasket on the engine and rebuilt the heads, did a bunch of other work on that car. After working otu afew minor bugs when the car first got running it has been a sweetheart of a ride. My original intention and only reason the wife let me get it was to fix it up and sell it as a money maker. Well after spending $70 a week on gas driving my truck I decided to keep the Z26 and she did not argue with me over that decision.

I found this car when I was looking for a Dodge Neon.  The owner had a red coupe parked at the end of his driveway- had a sun roof, 5-speed, and a damn nice interior, but the A/C didn't work.  As I was hanging up the phone, he shouted that he had a car with a working A/C, and that I could come see that one if I wanted to.

Sure enough, this thing was parked next to his garage.  He said it was a "Beretta".  All I knew was that the air worked wonderfully, it had a sun roof, and it was a unique, shiny blue (I'm a sucker for something shiny and blue).  My mother and I took it for a test drive (translated- she faced it down the side street, let go of the steering wheel, and floored it), we took it to the mechanic for a once-over, and I dropped $1200 on it later that evening (total time from first seeing it to handing over the money: 6 hours).

Two weeks later, it was sitting in the driveway when I got home from school, and the work began; the only lights not burnt out were the headlights and cluster lights, one of the brake light harnesses got screwed up, the interior was all kinds of disgusting, and I thought the wheels were gunmetal until I took a scrub brush to 'em.  A week after that, **** hit the fan in an enormous way, and I got to spend another $1100 in repair work.  But I stuck with it, and since that miserable first month of ownership, I've spent a grand total of maybe $500 in upkeep for 4 years and more miles and stupidity than I care to remember.

(Just a little side note: while I was fuming over my car being stuck in the shop, I heard some interesting news- turns out the Neon got purchased, and had proceeded to catch fire while the poor shmuck who bought it was cruising down I-4 the same afternoon he bought it)

I got my Beretta in June 07. I had been needing a car for a long time, but was waiting for an insurance settlement check to arrive. When it did, I went down to a dealership right away.

My car was in the section for cheaper cars, the ones that arent in the best condition. I saw it and liked the way it looked, so I test drove it.

One drive was all I needed. I didnt drive any other cars; I'd found mine. I jumped into it pretty fast. I might not have bought it if I'd had a mechanic look at it first, but love is love.

I originally had an Olds 88 Royale (it was a 1993 model I believe), which I bought for $500 from my cousin. My brother got hit, which totaled it, and I got $2,000 from their insurance.

My dad looked for a car for me, and found my 92 GT going for something like $1,600. I'm pretty sure it had 142K miles on it, but not sure on that. We talked the guy down to 1,400 cash in had, and walked away with it. I've had it ever since, and not it's just at 158K, and it's my daily driver. I don't drive too much, but **** do I drive when I drive!

In between there I had a 240sx (which I loved!) but that thing couldn't take the abuse like the Beretta could, seeing as how a piston rod snapped (while cruising down a highway).

My girlfriend (at the time, now wife of almost 16 years) bought her (our) 89 Beretta GT in September 1988 straight off of the lot at Century III Chevrolet in West Mifflin, PA.  I still bust her chops to this day about buying a car with manual windows and manual locks.  Remember, this was a car that appealed to women, and I saw somewhere that they were the targeted demographic for Berettas.  But it's been a great car, a fun car, and most of all, a reliable car, and that's why we still have it to this day.
