well guys, i'm stripping my old gtz before i scrap it, it was a good running and great shifting 3.1 gtz. but now its time for her to go and since no one wants to buy it even put back together, she's off to a new place. the problem is im going to be taking the parts off about 20 miles from my house and dont really want to spend a lot of time doing it. i know i will need a grinder to get the brackets off for the side skirts, and the back bumper is pretty much a bolt on if i dont just say f it and let it go. i know how to remove almost everything but ive never done springs before so if someone could tell me exactly what i will need to do these, i would much appreciate it. and ive never droped a gas tank on our cars but the one on the gtz is plastic so of course i will save that baby too. is there anything you guys would recommend me taking off the car before i scrap it? if there is, let me know.

edit: did the gtz's have front and rear sway bars? i dont recall seeing a swaybar in the back, but its been so long... and im not sure about the front, but if it does. how do i go about removing it?

also, its a 1992 beretta gtz.

Well to get the springs off, you'll need a spring compressor for the front unless you just rip off the struts too...
If i'm not mistaken the nut for the strut to knuckle bolts is 24mm, i think, then the bolt, and nuts on top of the strut. Smallish, i know one was 10mm but the others were a little bigger.
Jack up the front, jack stands under the subframe, pound out the strut to knuckle bolts, pop the tie rod, remove the nuts and bolt from the strut mount and muscle her out...
Rear springs are easy, jack up the car, put it on jack stands, put a jack under the axle beam, and jack it up a bit to take the weight off the shocks.
Unbolt the shocks and slowly drop the axle, the springs will eventually be loose enough to remove...
There should be front and rear sway bars also, the rear on my gtz is tucked up in the axle beam, it's just a straight bar that goes through the axle.
The front should be a direct acting bar, except the tabs may be welded to the strut. Should just be a nut holding it all together anyway..
Not too sure about the gas tank, I guess make sure it's almost empty b4 you try to take it off, and then I would think it's just a couple of straps holding it up there, and some fuel lines...
Good luck Speedy, i gotta finish rippin one apart here soon too, gf's getting mad at the eye sore in the driveway... lol

Edit: To get the front swaybar out, while you have it up taking the struts off there's only 4 nuts holding the swaybar in, just follow the swaybar back to the bushing and then look underneath and you should see where the nuts are hidden.
The only problem i've heard of getting the swaybars off is not having enough room to lift them out, then you have to unbolt a few bolts in the front of the sub frame i believe to make enough room.
As for the rear if i remember right it's only 4 bolts/nuts to remove, they should be visible from the back of the car while your removing the shocks.
Like i said above the bar is inside the axle beam.

take ur basic 7mm,10mm,13mm,15mm sockets and wrenches and a jack and u'd be able to get whatever u want off the car and if u want control arms bring 18mm 1/2 in socket set and u need jack  if u want the springs. this is what i would strip and entire beretta w/

meh, springs,sideskirts,brakets,gas tank,and some engine parts, shouldnt take more then an hour tops, eh? o,and the door panels and other interior crap....

Strut to knuckle bolts, 24mm...... stabilizer bar 18mm...... strut mount to body 10mm....... strut top bolt 22mm. I'm in the middle of doing the struts on my GTZ...

haha, she's off to the crusher tomorrow, i honestly just feel so bad, i dont know how im going to manage to let it go, but who the heck knows, they want a ton of freaking rain tomorrow too, and ive never pulled a car trailer before, so im not to sike-d about pulling a car trailer with a 2 ton car on it in the wet rain. we'll see, and theres another reason it might stay, if i dont need the money as of tomorrow, it might stay, if i do, it goe's, have to wait till tomorrow to see the world go around... lol.

Rain is a GOOD thing when scrapping a car. Infact, seal up and holes so all the water will stay in the car.

More weight = more money



We usually just take a hose to it and flood every opening.

btw, seats hold a LOT of water

i was going to do that, but they will nock weight off if the windows are open on the car, or if they think it might have gotten wet, they'll come outside and check too. plus, where the car is, theres no hoses to be found, or hookups for one, and theres no carwash without backtracking and it would be not only obvouis, but also, add way more wiegh then i want to pull for 40 miles on a rebuilt tranny...  

and its not going till tomorow....
