Wondering if anyone has a 90 or similar year gtz quad 4, I am thinking about buying one to replace my 2.0 beretta for a 4cly fwd class at a local track, I have head bad things about the motors blowing up alot, anyone have any past experiance or advice.

Yes, quads can be trouble-prone engines but they are the most fun stock Berettas to drive.

On the 90-92 quads the head gaskets usually fail before 100,000 miles.  After they are replaced with the new design gasket, they're better.

Quads can also have oiling issues.  They can be prone to spinning bearings.  

Get a quad that is in good shape and take care of it and it should be ok.

^^ Agreed. Replace the timing chain, guides,water pump and head gasket before 100K and all is well. If you get one over 100k and are unsure ,replace the above mentioned items. Quads are like any other motor , you get what you give. If you take care of it properly it will run forever. I have a Quad sitting in my driveway with 230k on the clock. ORIGINAL down to the headgasket, though I've been patiently waiting for it to blow,lol. I've owned several Quad motors with great luck. Some people will try to convince you they're crap,but they're wrong. GM put the Quad in almost a dozen of their models. GREAT motor! And a blast in the HO version or the W41 version!

I would like agree with using one for a track use, but with the harder to find HO specific parts and the cheap cost to use an ecotec instead...  I'd go eco all the way.  You can really hammer on those eco's and it takes the beating like you wouldn't believe.  If I must say, the eco has better durability than a 60*v6 MPFI.  
Find you a cavalier or if you feel gutsy, swap the ecotec in the beretta.  I don't think a such swap has been 100% completed.  Become the first!!!

this motor has been redone, the tranny is going on it, i have a 4cly out of a cavalier 2.2, replaced my 2.0 beretta motor, it hauled for a race or two now all im having in is probs, so i was thinking bout the quad due to the horsepower it cranks...will it stand to 6,000 plus rms consistantly?

That 2.2 PUSHROD is not the same as an ecotec.  Although that 2.2 is a decent engine (besides the common: blowing out the head gasket in the front driver side corner) , but not really ideal for more than just DDing.  
The quad wouldn't mind the 6k constant rpm's, but gearing and the powerband of the quad will need to be matched for what you plan to do.  You could always have the chip burnt to allow a 7200 rpm, but that would be something I wouldn't do for a stock rebuild.  I just don't trust the stock HO quad beyond 6400 rpm's.
