yes a stock 3400 will run on a stock 3100 tune but when you throw a cam in the mix you add more variables that the computer can't compensate for... Its better off going to OBDII and I've mastered that swap and all you need is an engine bay harness and you can leave your factory 95 interior harness in place...

I have a OBDII 95 base  First one swapped with my method.

Hey 3X00-Modified, my guess is that you had this posted somewhere. When was it done and where should I look for it?
I talked to Ed at Fastchips and he said that he had not reverse engineered the computer enough for the mods I want to do. Also talked to Dave at Moates and he said that the Tunercat could reflash, but I would need their Roadrunner program and it was $900 for the whole set up. That puts the ball in your court 3X00-Modified.

The 3400 even runs reliably on the stock 2.8 tune.

Well, that's something to think about. Yes it does kinda kill off the cam and heads. I'm a all or nothing kind of guy, so it may have to be a full swap(also I'm not big on cutting wires)if I do it. I guess that the stock 3100 fuel pump can feed the 3400.

The stock pump and stock tune will be fine for a 3400 swap.
The stock pump will be fine for a 3400 with cam and bolt ons.  A tune will be needed.

I would find a later model 3400, swap in the cam and all the other goodies.  Then get a obd2 harness and swap that too.  Then look for a PCM, not a Beretta pcm, but the one everyone uses for dhp tuning.  Send that out and have it reflashed.

Now while you're at it, you minds well have your 4t60E built for the task, it will not live long with the mods if you dont do it.  A stock rebuild is not what I have in mind...  More like sending it to someone (or learning, not a bad idea) that knows how to build them.
You COULD contact ZZperformance and ask them what they can do, but they might pursued you to swap to a full 4t65E-HD, which is not needed.  With the right builder and parts, the 4t60e can be built to handle the kind of power it will be seeing.

Wow, thanks for all the info 1988GTU! Do you have any 3400 computers and a wiring harness? I'll look around my house, but I may be out of luck. I was going to have the trans rebuilt(there is a shop that puts a better pump in here). That may not be good enough though. There is a place online that sells beefed up 4T60E's http://www.importperformancetrans.com/gmautofwd.shtml

I can more than likely get you that harness. cluster, but the pcm I will have to look really well since those are kinda hard to get (97 3100 monte) .  I'll gather a total price for you in the next couple weeks...  If you want it sooner PM me and I'll get hot on it asap.  Otherwise I have to get a few projects out of the way for my up coming last long pole fishing expo.
I dont know much about that site you have linked there, but if they know there stuff...  Then I guess go for it.  ZZP is known to break records with fwd stuff, so that is why I linked them for you.

Take your time, I'm just getting everything set. I don't do anything without a plan first. The 3100 build is dead now and the 3400 build may be next(may just go for a stock 3400 swap). I've got a bad cost over run and work has cut our hours down. We will see how far this goes on the build. There will be headers and a CAI,so a tune may happen anyway. Still would like to have the cam in a 3400 and ported heads+intake.
ZZ has a better price on their trans. Is that the trans that backs the 3400 more or less? Thinking of the computer.

I dont know if they actually do the 4t60E since all I ever see is the 4t65E, but they both are similar (like a 3100 vs 3400 in a sense) and they should have a lot to say about a 4t60E pro/HD rebuild.

Ten four on the harness, I'll have it ready Late Nov, Mid Dec -ish.

What backs the 3400 most of the time? I would just like to use the 3400 computer and not have a trans controler on the side. In those months my 10-20 will be a home, so just PM me if you want.

They should do the 4T60-E.  They do list 1997 models (4T65-E came out in 98)

Depends on the vehicle and year.  Could be a 4T45-E, 4T60-E or 4T65-E.

3x00-modified is still using the 4t60e and he has some pretty good mods to list.  So I would just stick with the 60e and not worry about getting a controller for using a 65e.  In stock form, the 60e is a 4Tsleezy-e, when rebuilt with the right parts it is a decent trans.
