3100 camshaft?

Post by Money pit Beretta »

Thanks for the info Cliff!
Ok 1988GTU, I may stick with the 4T60E. That will cut down on the work. I'll look for the parts and ask the guys at the shop around my house.

3100 camshaft?

To add to this, the only things I have done to the 4t60e, is replaced the reverse drum, the 4th hub, put in a LSD, did a full rebuild, seals and all, raybestos clutches, and added in the Sonnax valve body fixes, line boost valves, the Shift correction kit, and shimmed my accumulators with washers.  This resulted in a very strong shifting 4t60e in my red car, I did the same, minus some of the valve body boost valves and such on pinky and got a reliable trans with not so hard of a shift, SO I'll be cracking in to that this winter to do the low ratio boost valve and possibly the other shift valves so I can get the same shift pressure in this car that I have in the other one.

Your biggest limitation in the 4t60e will be the drive chain, they have a tendency to stretch with lots of power.  My red car has a stretched chain now and I NEED to replace it sometime.

If you have any other questions about the OBDII harness setup let me know.  Its really easy to do.

For the trans rebuild, I'll have to take it to a shop or buy one. I know what the basic stuff is, but not much more than that. I do not think that I'll be putting too much power to the 4T60e. I'm going to have to get an idea on how far I want to go on this. Like:stock 3400,3400 with a cam or 3400 with ported heads/intakes and cam. The thing is that the tune will be hard to do for me. Most shops around here have the cheap kinda dyno and I don't have enough info or know how to tune with HP tuners if I go to OBD2(if I get a computer that is supported by them). Well, HP tuners after the base tune on a cheap dyno if I have the money(have to look for a load dyno and find out the cost). Without a tune I'm starting to think"what's the point?" of a upper end build. Thanks for the info 3X00-Modified.

This 3100 is making me mad. That's it, it will have to be a 3400 with the ported heads and upper/lower intake plus the stage 1 cam. I just took a ride in a 01 Z-28 with 81K on it. Man, it was like the good old days! I know there is no way I can keep up with that, but I want to hold my own(this 3100 is a joke). This guy up the street has a 70 Chevelle that has 530hp at the wheels(got to ride in that last year) and knows where a good dyno is.

Making the power is not the real problem, putting the power to the ground is the concern.

The plan is to beef the trans. Are you talking about the CV's or a need for a LSD? I thought the stock CV's could take the power. With the headers, new exhaust, cat back and everything else it should be at the most around 230hp at the engine(right?). I can do a full list of the plan in another post if that will help.

Being an auto shouldn't put that much stress on the axles, but a quick quote from DDS (drive shaft shop) couldn't hurt.
An LSD is not a bad idea, transmission hard parts are questionable for the 4t60e...  I dont know if they make anything direct swappable for it (billet input shaft) to use from the 65E.

Thanks for all the great help everybody! This project is on hold do to job loss(just thought I'd update this). I was trying to get everything set up and the swap ready to avoid all of the 3100's problems, but now I'm stuck with it. There will be a restart, but I don't know when.
