Gasoline in Manifold! Please help!

Post by rfernandez »

Wow, talking about some dangerous stuff! I have gasoline coming out of the manifold, near my rear drivers side shock absorber(probably from gasline) and coming out of muffler! It was late last night after I had installed a CPS. my car doesnt start and I was cranking and cranking. The few times it turned on there was so much soot coming out of the muffler. after about 15 attempts I stopped and noticed some faint smoke coming from where the manifold meets the exhause pipe (I have a 4 cyl. 2.2l). I then noticed a small pool of "liquid" below my muffler pipe. I then noticed another small pool by the rear left tire; right below some of the gas lines from the gas tank. It looked to be coming more from a small pipe then the gas tank itself. These are the things that I have done so far to try and get this car running.
1. cleaned out TB
2. replaced idle air control
3. replaced egr
4.replaced CPS
5. replaced plugs and wires
6. new fuel filter.

It takes about 15 attempts to get this car on and then It wont stay on for more than 10 seconds when it is on. I know I need to check that fuel line, but my big question is ..

WHY IS THERE GAS COMING FROM MY MANIFOLD/ MUFFLER? I CANT TOUCH THE CAR UNTIL I KNOW WHY THAT IS!

Thanks

The gas/brake lines run by the drivers side. If they are rusted it could be leaking...
If it's coming OUT of the muffler/tailpipe that's cause you cranked it so much without it sparking that it was just pushing raw fuel down the exhaust system.

I guess checking my spark plugs should be my next step?

I did crank it alot without the car starting.

If the lines are leaking then you may not have enough pressure to get it started. Be sure to check the lines, there is a small chance for a fire. If the fuel is going out the tail pipe you are cranking the engine too much. If it doesn't start in the first few seconds then quit. Right now there is a ton of gas in your oil. You could hurt your engine very bad if you keep doing that. The fuel can wash the oil away or keep it from doing it's job. Also the Cat could be damaged, they can only take so much fuel before they fail(if it's able to dry out before the engine runs it could be ok). There is a spark tester out there, all you have to do is set it on a wire to see if anything is going threw it(when you are cranking the engine). It's made by Lisle, part #19380.
