Small piece of update here, I've been mostly waiting for parts for a some time now....

Image
I replaced the narrowband o2 sensor and previous gauge with AEM wideband gauge&controller and Bosch 6-wire o2 sensor.
Also installed cheapo oil temperature gauge, sensor for that i located in the oil cooler sandwich adapter.

I think i mentioned before, that i had this weird eurospec cluster for my car, from the factory it lights up 90's turquoise... pretty gay for my taste, and also had really bad light distribution that made some areas dark and other bright..

I've been trying to find a way to fix that, and tried several different lighting options, currently it has 6 LED cluster bulbs installed, that totals around 72 leds.. and it's still pretty bad for light distribution... But better than stock and white leds make it look like blue instead of turquoise.

I guess I'm either keeping it like this for a while, or get a speedhut overlay, or swap to 230Km/h cluster that lights up the stock way...

It's a shame that they don't light up even. I kind of like it. Oops, guess I'm gay then(lol). It's better than my dull cluster.

If you want I can post a pic of mine and I'd bet you would like yours better.

Summer 2010

Just to update that there is absolutely nothing to update here.

Been just waiting for parts, this whole winter was a huge failure timetable wise and fucked up all the plans for couple years for what I've had planned for the car. :(

What i HAD planned for winter 09-10:
- Roll cage (got delayed because of the engine work)
- Rear axle bushings swap (can't do without turning the car around...needs engine for that)
- Fuel pump swap (same reason)
- WBo2 install (done)
- Engine oil cooler & temperature gage installation (done)
- Fixing up some things, got the cluster done for now, side mirror fixed, header sandblasted and repainted, and the car on good wax, rest needs car to be moving.

Also installed the new steering wheel what was not planned.

Current plan is to finally build the roll cage next winter then, i was also planning couple other major thing but lets see.

Car is just collecting dust now. I hope i get to drive this thing before the short (3 month) summer is already gone. :(

In a month I will be taking the black car completely apart for firewall work and to replace some parts, looks like i wont be having either cars on the road for a while then.

Well the cage to some does seem somewhat of overkill since your not pushing a ton of HP... BUT IIRC you do want to auto-x this car and something like that will greatly stiffen the body and help protect the car overall.

Am I correct?

You are correct, i will be building a very supportive cage to stiffen up the body and to carry the suspension. Also if\when i roll the car or hug a tree, the car can be most likely still saved.

But what does high hp number do with a need of roll cage? *confused*

Btw, we don't have auto-x over here, all we have is road course event days and spirited driving on public roads. Both will usually exceed the speeds off what you can ever got on auto-x.

And as i stated it before, if you don't have power, you need speed....

I like the LEDs in the cluster. There was a how-to on fullsizechevy.com about sanding the gay turquoise off the numbers. I'll see if I can find it.

You are required to have a cage to drag race if your car goes fast enough through the 1/4.

Thanks for the link woody90gtz, I've been also thinking about doing that, but lil scared to start doing that to the only 240km/h eurospec cluster I've ever seen / heard.

Also this cluster is all black from the rear side, and all the other clusters (that light up normally) are white. Looks like this has more 'layers' on it vs normal ones.

Yeah, I have a spare I was thinking about trying it with. Without a spare I'd be a little nervous.

I was also thinking about making my own with black on clear engraving stock. That way I can change the font for the numbers and some other little mods.

I talked with Speedhut and they could do special order overlays too, like i was about to order one that has the unused (ABS) and other symbols removed. Black with white letter off course.

They can also change the redline and top speed and all, but i skipped buying one after reading dozen people telling that the overlay warps and gets the cluster needles stuck. Unless you glue it or something.
