T56 gearing:
1 - 2.66:1
2 - 1.78:1
3 - 1.30:1
4 - 1.00:1
5 - 0.74:1
6 - 0.50:1
R - 2.90:1

NV4500 gearing:
1 - 5.61
2 - 3.44
3 - 1.71
4 - 1.00
5 - 0.73
R - 5.61

Now which might be better for a heavy, underpowered truck to tow with? haha

Called the salvage place again yesterday and they seem to have their heads up their asses. I've called 3 times and have yet to get pricing from them, and only yesterday did they inform me the clutch hydraulics are missing. So I found a pre-bled system at LMC truck for $175, a flywheel is $100 and a Hays Super Truck clutch is $284. So that's $559 plus their final price for everything needed for the swap, and the trans only was listed at $550. This is gonna be close to a pro-built HD automatic...

Sometimes the 5-speed parts needed to do the swap and end up with all OEM components aren't worth it when you can get a performance built auto that will drop right in for the same price ;)

Is the 5speed that comes with the 1500's crappy? I tow my drift car with my buddies 1500. Its a weak ass 4.3 with a 5-speed. The motor makes no power but the trans seems stout. You can shift it just as fast as you can any other car. But like I said maybe the v6 dosent make enough torque to break it.

But that would still mean there was no clutch pedal!

The NV3500s that come in the 1500s are ok, but the NV4500 is head and shoulders above it. I really like the idea of big gear multiplication in 1st & R. When guys break their NV3500s or 4L60Es mud bogging or towing the NV4500 is a popular swap. There are adapters to run one in just about anything because they're basically bulletproof. Real popular in rock crawler trucks & Jeeps, etc. Same trans Dodge uses behind the Cummins turbo diesel.

The salvage place called back with $800 for a total price, so that sounds good to me and I'll do the swap. No more stupid torque converters on my property!

Just another reason to kick that jap crap out then!

I knew older Vettes had ZF 6spds before GM went to the T56. What BBC application are you talking about Cliff?

Ok I did a little reading and that ZF looks like a beast! GM used it behind the Duramax and 8.1 Vortecs with a massive torque rating. I also found out it won't fit the GMT-400 platform without a 3" body lift of a cut up trans tunnel, and it would be a much more complicated & expensive swap. I think 5 gears will be good enough for the truck, I've got 6 in the Camaro anyway.

Stick with the 5 speed and do the body lift anyway!

No body lift, for chrissakes! Everybody and their brother wants me to do a 3" body lift. The damn thing barely fits in the garage now! haha
