Starter for 3400

Post by woody90gtz »

Looking to grab one cheap. I'd prefer a mini starter from a 2000+ but of cheap enough I'd consider an old school one.

They're only $25 at yards around here... Honestly I think shipping on an old honker would be totally cost prohibitive.

I should add, I'm on my third junkyard ministarter in 7 years, 2 alone in the last 12 to 18 months. While my back up starter that travels on the road with me is the original huge one from my 90gt swap donor that I grabbed out of a huge puddle of water on the floorboard... and it still works... after being wet for months.

While I love the cranking sound, smaller size and light weight of the little guys - I do think they are pansies in comparison.

I have only purchased ONE mini starter... and that was close to 8 years ago now... Its been on my red car the whole time nad I've never had a problem. I just pulled it cleaned it and painted it to go on my pink car.

Ha! The oil on yours is nothing. You should see the rust scale on mine...it's from the 95! haha

I called the local jy guy and left a message. If not I might head to Binghamton to the huge junkyard and grab one. I can search for the elusive FE7 bracket too...and if I'm really lucky find a 5spd donor for the truck!

so its not worth the $34 to replace the solenoid, or did you miss that link.

And mines from 1996, but just cared for much more... :P

Local guy doesn't have a gear reduction one, but I'm sure the place in Binghamton will. I haven't been to that yard in a LONG time either, so it's probably worth a look around. I'm guessing I can get a mini for what it would cost to buy the solenoid.
