87-90 Rear deck speaker boxes

Post by heavywoody »

I don't remember what year they were in, but I know Cliff has them in his 89.

There are speaker boxes that hang down from the rear deck 6x9's.

I'd like a set.

Shipped to 28012, preferably in time for me to get them in for BFest.

Weren't they just like a preformed cardboard thing, padded with that floor matting, then used some sort of wire hook and clip fastener? They formed a "box" of sorts, but I always thought the trunk space gave the speakers better acoustics, as you have more of a resonating chamber using the trunk, vs the tiny space the boxes give, or are you wanting them for some other reason? Looks?

lol

Just saying, they do not enhance the sound quality at all.. :P There is a rule for speaker's. Resonating cubic space should equal the speaker's surface area, or be approximately equal. While that's harder to figure, many just use the size of the speaker. So for a 12" as an example, you would want 12 cubic inches of space behind the speaker. With 6x9's, you have to average them, that gives you 7.5 cubic inches of space for each, something those boxes don't give you. They are more like 2-3. That may actually lower the amount of low frequency sound you would appear to have, or it would seem to sound as if you lowered it. Keep in mind, this affects lower frequency sounds more than higher frequency. So the lower the note, the more it gets hampered by insufficient resonating space.

Too much space can cause over resonance, where you get echoing, or even too much lower frequency sound, which can seem to throw the music out of balance.

lol

I know, too much info. :P

Good luck though.

Actually he is getting them because they enhance the hit of the bass... At least he says Cliff's car sounds way better than his with no sub, so he wants to try them out.
