are tune ups at local garages worth the money?

Post by themadness »

would it be worth it to get a tune up on the beretta i may be getting? i have a trusted guy here in town and may be able to see things i dont. or should i just have them check it and do one thing at a time, assuming of course there are major issues to be addressed.

I usually fix what's broken.

What do you mean by tune up? It doesn't have a carb that needs cleaning, or points that need adjusting.

Oil and filter, and if they've never been done, plugs wires and a new belt. Then drive it.

I'm biased, but usually? Yes. As stated, an experienced eye that does it for a living every day of the week is quite likely to spot what you may not. Plus , the work done will be guaranteed and come out of HIS pocket if he fucks up. Whereas if YOU gently caress up, guess who pays? It all comes down to how much you believe in your mechanical aptitude. :D

Or trust the mechanical aptitude of your local mechanic... ;) I make my local guys wonder how on earth I made what I did... therefore I trust no one to touch it. :)

this

i had the inspection guy going WTF. when he drove the car back out he's like i was waiting for the check engine light to come on because of the low lopy idle.

i think the last thing the GA had seen a mechanic for was an alignment right after i got the car and i promptly drove the car right out when the guy said he wanted to drill out the mounting hole for the rear strut to align it.

Marketing is a wonderful tool... They suck you in like shop vac.... And then they spit you right out the back end too like its not even running a filter.

ACDelco Iridum's for longevity, or Platinums to save some money. NGK is the same as ACDelco too if you can get those any cheaper/easier

Well, unfortunately, while the masses seem to hate shop mechanics (and I'm sorry to say I can't entirely fault them after seeing how many shops around HERE screwed customers over that eventually came to me and stayed because I'm honest and actually know what I'm doing) I guess use your best judgement. Good luck.

You can get 5% more horsepower and gas savings from just indexing your sparkplug so the flame kernel is pointed in the direction of the quench area.

I dont need a special plug to do that.
