my first paintjob..(crap pic but oh well)
i got my first "real" paintjob done. i did a version of styluss' diy job except i used my father in laws spray gun. i used rustoleum gloss white and did 2 coats. of course it has orange peel that i will try to get rid of but so far its not bad on the eyes. at least its all one color now
this pic is from my cell phone and i will be getting better ones tomorrow once i get everything back together.
fyi the dent in the hood will be covered by either a bra or bug deflector.
give me some constructive feedback on how to make it better and i will get some better pics up

Looks good. Since your painting it anyway pull that dent out and bondo over it. No bra needed

Looks pretty good! I wouldn't worry about the orange peel. With it being a single stage paint you will just sand right through.

depends on how thick he sprayed it on... If it is thick enough he could take down the high spots and not sand through... but that really depends on how smooth his primer coat was as well. With single stage paint, yes theoretically you are sanding away the color coat but since its single stage you should have sprayed it on thick enough to be able to handle that. With two stage yes your smoothing out the clear coat.Kris GTwhat? wrote:Looks pretty good! I wouldn't worry about the orange peel. With it being a single stage paint you will just sand right through.

better pics in the sun. looks like hell up close so i will be doing some light sanding and buffing. i may try to buff first just to try the less aggressive approach. i'l try to get more pics later. any help would be appreciated as far as orange peel goes. almost afraid to touch it.

Just buffing it will make the orange peel look worse. Depending on how bad it is, you'll need to hit it with 1200 or 1500 to knock it down. Color sanding is an art though, so be careful. I went through the clear on my rear bumper trying to smooth it out.
Luckily white is the most forgiving color on the planet, so I would do just a little at a time and see how it looks. You'd be better off sanding a bit too little than a bit too much. Cause once you're through the color coat it means a respray to fix it.

Looks good with the black plastic on the bottom of the bumpers and rockers painted body color.

I think it looks great, you are going to put Earl Scheib out of business.
