what is the least difficult way to change the back spark plugs on a 3100 Beretta...

I always just went by feel. You might gain a little room if you take the coil packs off but they don't make that much of a difference really.

ive never actually replaced the plugs on my beretta...do i need to gap the plugs I get? and what are the best plugs to use...

AC Delco Rapidfires are good plugs, gap is .060. Check the gap on pre-gapped plugs because they aren't always correct.

You can also remove the alternator to get some extra room; but I've been able to change mine without removing anything, and people that know me know that I'm not a small guy.

I changed the rear's when I had the LIMG install to do. It was way easier once you get things out of the way, but you should be able to do it by feel.

Just remove the coils and bracket, you can then see them very easily.

On a 3/8 drive: 6in extension, 3in extension and a universal(swivel)
On two plugs it will be 6-universal-3-socket
On the middle(if I remember right) it will be 6-3-universal-socket
Taking out the pulgs keep the rubber plug holder in the socket, when putting in the plugs take the rubber out(push it out with a screwdriver). Taking the rubber out gives you a better chance to get the plug in right and faster. Remember to use anti-seize. If you don't you may pull some threads out the next time you do it.
Use a mirror if you don't pull the coils and bracket.
Tighten by hand first always(as I'm sure you know).

I've always just dug around back there without removing anything. It's really not all that bad. Easier then a lot of other FWD V6 cars. Some assorted extensions, plug socket and a ratchet is all I've ever needed with a Beretta. Oh, and a tool to check the plug gap.

One thing that really makes the job 10x easier is to have a magnetic spark plug socket. I just did my plugs and that thing made a world of difference compared to past replacements. If you haven't already replaced them. The guys are also right that you only really need to remove the coil packs to get enough room/light (and the strut brace if you have one).
