that sucks for me LOL. 155 a month for 3 vehicles.. i pay 181/month for my 96 z. my 88 was 310/month cuz my company is dumb and say its a classical cuz its older then 20 years. in the spring time when im ready to put the 88 back on the road im changing companies for sure cant afford to change 3 vehicles over to a new company right now.

those prices are with a clean record too, i got a minor speeding ticket (not even in one of my vehicles) and my insurance on the 88 went up and the 96 went down 20 bucks lol. i think i only have liability and something else on the Z, i could add collision for 7 bucks a month and i told them to add it but not sure its on yet. my receipt for the 96 says i paid 200 for the car, i need to take it in and have it appraised so in case something happens at least ill get more then 200 back out of it.. i pay almost that per month.

Im not sure how that works though, my 88 is a base model registered 4 cylinder... and the Z is a sport edition with the v6 and cost me less. just dont make sense considering it would cost the same to fix either of them.

Most insurance companies don't care what you paid for it, they care about what their system shows it to be worth, plus or minus things like condition, age, extras, mileage (to a point). If you have an older car that is in really nice shape, it may be worth more than their typical value point.

Age has a factor as well. lol

Well, I bought a 5.1 quart jug of Valvoline Synthetic 5w-30 with a Bosch extreme dirt extended filter for the base today. 32 bucks at advance auto. (30.99 plus tax)

Going to try to get that changed tomorrow. As far as I know the engine has never had synthetic before.

Question.

Does anyone that is running CAI intakes get more or see more issues with condensation buildup in the oil, like on the dipstick or on the oil filler cap bottom? The base has been mostly clean up till the last week or so, and that is when the lifter tick really started back in. I'm hoping once the oil is changed that will stop. Coolant has not been going down, the last couple times I checked it, its not loosing any, and I just figured maybe what Brandon saw that made him think of LIMG leaks was in fact condensation effects.... Maybe. *shrug

I have never had this with the Z, but its always had synthetic.

I have American family and i pay 150ish a month on full coverage for an 03 trailblazer and liability on my 92 gtz and my 91 s10 lol. But i had some condensation on my dipstick when i had my cai on my gtz before the deer hit and i had to go back to the stock intake and now the dipstick looks normal everytime.... weird.

I think its because the CAI breathes easier, so it allows air to travel through it easier, one reason we like to have one for some performance enhancement. But this also may allow cold air to get in easier and condensate on warm engine parts, leading to water mixing with the oil. Especially in colder weather. Like during initial warm up and during cooling down periods. Makes sense to me, but that doesn't mean anything. lol Just been noticing some whitish build up, seen it before on this engine before I bought it, so just wanted to ask. At least its not chocolate milk. lol

And condensated water doesn't contain phosphates. :D

No matter, changing oil today.

Just came back from the junk yard up here in Sault Sainte Marie Ontario.

Having them pull the following from the same base I robbed the hood from:

Rad fan.
Hood latch assembly. I need the whole support.
Header panel.
Headlights.
Grill.
Left fender.
Left fender plastic liner.
Both mirrors.

$300 for them to pull it for me and have it ready next week. Not going to complain, I won't have to go freeze outside and do it myself.

Now I just need to find a hood...........

I think for now, the way things are, I will have to pass. Sorry man!

Oh, and you can tell winter finally got here. I just got home not even 30 minutes ago...

Too bad I could not get it to focus on the car. Snow was pretty heavy.

Check arrived today, so have already ordered stuff that I needed, mostly for the S10 project going on in the garage. All to do with external lighting, about 250 bucks worth. Still have tail lights to buy for it, but they are only 70. And I have to help get a battery for it too. This is how I pay for having the body work done... lol

I bought myself a full new set of clear side markers that I plan to then rip apart and make LED versions of. I hate that ebay seems to be the only place to have them, and it cost me 56.06 for the 4 of them. Ouch. Shipping was 20 bucks because they won't combine. Asses!

I have 300 sitting here in an envelope to pay for the parts that I am getting from the scrap yard in Soo Ontario. I have to add 2 more things to the list, going to call them tomorrow about those but I doubt they will charge me more, just need a full antenna mast and those somewhat S shaped pieces that support the header panel..

But I have to find a hood yet, so anyone that is within a reasonable driving distance that has a good hood (not beat to hell or rusted out) or a lead on one for hopefully less than 100-150 bucks, by all means let me know. I live in the top of Michigan, so MI, WI, or Ontario. LOL

Thanks.

Ok, some updates.

I have picked up the following yesterday:

Fender
Inner liner
Headlights
Grill
Support panel
latch assembly with support post
Antenna
Exterior mirrors
Radiator Fan
Misc bolts/nuts
"S" supports (that I just realized I need to go back after)

And I think Chazzman has a hood for me!

I also changed the oil last night, no more clickity clack from the lifters! Switched from Quaker Dino to (this change) Valvoline Full Synthetic 5W30 with a Bosch Extreme Dirt filter (PF52 version).

So far so good. Engine sounds a bit smoother.

Got my replacement head unit in from speedincorsica today. Looks good, tested it on the bench and it seems to work. Should plug right into the existing harness if I'm lucky since they are both Pioneers... Guess I will find out soon enough tomorrow.

I will be so thankful to have it play CD's or whatever and not skip, crackle, and otherwise do the funky things it has been. And yes it was doing this with scratch free disks... It would play it fine one time, and the next time, same disc same track even if I just repeated it, it play like crap. I would tap on it, and it might play nice again, or continue to play like crap, or it would be the reverse, playing like crap then simply ejecting and reinserting and it played fine. I think the best was when it would crackle till it spaced out, stop for 5 seconds then come back and be playing fine. I was getting really... REALLY fed up. lol

Tomorrow, lots of customer work to do, S10 work to do, (install the bed, work on the LED lighting install) and make room for getting my parts prepped for painting/installing. Once I have the hood next weekend (not this weekend) I have to prep that and the fender, get them both painted and ready, get a few other things ready to do, then pull it in on a Sunday and work on it all day, fixing all the things I need to repair for now. Including the horn, the leftover wiring from some lights that were installed, etc., seat cover, EGR cleanout, just lots of piddly stuff so its good.

Now to just wait for my clear side markers to arrive, so I can start building those next.
