97 Z24 ECM

Post by Money pit Beretta »

My GF's car has been a real pain and I'm thinking the ECM may be screwed up. It's a 1997 Cavalier Z24 2.4/auto. Anybody able to get one?

Ha, ha. I should have said a used one. I don't have the money for a new one or to pay GM to flash it.

The used ones say"fits Z24" and it sure does, but they are not flashed for the 2.4L/auto.

try this
http://stores.ebay.com/SpareECM
They sell you one with the latest GM re-flash and you send back your old one.
It wasn't expensive and the car ran good.

comes up with this result on ebay first when clicked on...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-1999-Caval ... 9c&vxp=mtr

I'm sorry it frustrates me when there is tons of info on the web and all you need to do is search or look around a little more yet your asking someone else to do it and post a link for you. There are ways to eliminate the "fits" a 97 cavalier in ebay as well, put quotes around what your searching and it only brings back that if it's in the description or body.

My suggestion would be to ask on the Cavalier forums. I'm sure there are a ton of them on there.

Looks to be 1996 to 1999. Not to sure on the 99 the Z24 was still around in Canada in 2000, but not here in the US. If the car has the 2.4 twin cam and an auto it should be the same.

Google and Bing come up with the samething. As for using " " on ebay I didn't know you could do that.
JBO is a good old boys club. I already looked over the site in the for sale and there is nothing there. Not many members there anymore, most have moved on.
Cragislist in my area didn't have anything. I know of a few people here that work at junk yards or go to one all the time. This place was my best bet. I trust people here also.
I have been looking for months for a good used one. Not five minutes so don't make me out to be one of those people that just give up easy.
Boy I'm glad that I waited this long to post it here. I was frustrated when I first started looking and all this crap would have pushed me passed the limit.

Seriously though... Ebay has tons of people offering ECU's for $60 fully programmed to match your vin with free shipping, and I found that by searching 97 cavalier computer, no quotes searching 97 cavalier ECU brings up flashmasters who offers the same service. And also searching Google for 97 cavalier ecu the first result is the Ebay search of the same exact words which brings up a full flashing service on an ECU, no core charge free shipping.

I just don't understand how you couldn't find anything sorry.

Yeah I don't know what went wrong. I had never seen the reflash ECM's until you and jskiguy put up the links. Could be that Google is better than Bing. I don't know, but when Google said they were going to sell info I quit using it(yes I know Bing does it too). On the weatherstrip search I did that on both and the same sites came up on the first page(on Bing I checked 30 pages before I went to Google). Ebay does change from time to time, so that may be part of it.
Anyway I'm tired of screwing with this car. If I do something little it helps a little. If I do something big(replacing two bad injectors, intake gasket) it runs great for two to three days and it's back to doing the samething. Any code is for the cat(most of the time it's PO420). That has to do with the bad missfire.
Don't worry about it 3X00.
