Re: Headliner and headliner board
well i was thinking that there wasnt that many curves, so it may be that heating a sheet of plexi would work. maybe just lay it in the interior side or turn it over and lay it on the back. heat it up with a heat gun until it falls in to form? cut of any excess and the hole for the dome light, cover it, paint it or whatever could be done.....
Re: Headliner and headliner board
well, how exactly is the headliner board held to the roof, does the trim hold it in or those velcro looking things on the ceilding/both or ? I'm gonna hit up a junkyard this weekend and take some parts off of a nice indy they have there. All interior parts should be the same as my GTU correct? I may get the headliner and visors and some other misc parts.

The Velcro things hold it to the roof.

Re: Headliner and headliner board
Okay, sounds easy. Does the sunroof make it alot more difficult to pull/put in or not really?
Re: Headliner and headliner board
It depends on the style of the sunroof... I'm not insanely familiar with this process, but I have looked at sunroof headliners before and said "No way". So, hopefully you have the easy to remove, or install I should say, type of headliner. And yes, ANYTHING that you take off of an Indy will fit in or on your GTU. If that Indy has the front lip, GRAB IT!

Re: Headliner and headliner board
Well, mine luckly has the lip intact (everything is intact on it). But if they don't want too much grab it anyways?
Are they (Indy/GTU lips) worth much? Or just nice to have incase I wrecked mine or something?

Re: Headliner and headliner board
They are rare as they are not being made anymore. And since they are on the front bottom of the car they tend to be damaged. Any chance to preserve a part for our cars help us all. And they do tend to fetch alot when sold.
Re: Headliner and headliner board
I'll most likely get the lip then as long as they don't want too much for it.
There's also atleast 2 nice GTU's there as well.

Re: Headliner and headliner board
Okay, so didnt get a lip as they did not have any.
I got a headliner out of a 91+ base model (no sunroof) What all will I need to do for it to work? I was gonna hold it up (It stays partially up in the car) and have someone cut the hole from the outside for the sunroof, will that work?
Another problem, turns out that my shifter was broke before and the previous owners glued it back together, and a plastic piece flew out of the shifter so now it doesn't really work anymore and my handbrake broke as well (a spring and the button on the inside handle flew off) Do I need to get a shifter and handbrake of a 88-89 or would a 91+ work? I'm thinking not because the newer ones are overdrive, but they're also cheaper than a 88-89.
EDIT: Still answer the above questions. But I glued to piece back on a it will go out of park now, but you don't need the button once out of park(!!!) Thats not good... New shifter?

Re: Headliner and headliner board
The shifter is easy. Most GM shifters of that era will fit. I had a Saturn shifter in my 90GT. The e-brake linkage can be had from any Beretta and I think some j-body's but don't quote me on that one. The headliner I have no idea. Hopefully someone that knows will speak up.

Re: Headliner and headliner board
This is good advice. I did it with my headliner to keep it from folding along the weak (narrow) areas along the side of the sunroof. The board is compressed fiberglass batting, so it a perfect base piece to soak in resin to make stronger.Rodville wrote:I was going to soak mine in fiberglass resin but it left me before I could.
Re: Headliner and headliner board
There is a small write up on how to do a headliner somewhere on this board. I think that they may have even included steps for a sunroof car.

Re: Headliner and headliner board
beat me to it
Re: Headliner and headliner board
The one I got has good fabric, I just need to cut it (the headliner and board) to fit my car because its out of a 91+ base model that had no sunroof.
Just hold it up and have someone cut the hole?
