LZ9 prep and future install.
LZ9 prep and future install.
Hello everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am currently building a LZ9 3.9L V6 VVT from a '06 Pontiac G6 GTP. The plan will be to install this in a Beretta in the future. A thread has already been created in the 60degreeV6 forum. I'm planning to keep the VVT function also. Also to mate it with the stock 6spd manual. If you have any questions/suggestions let me know. Here's a link to the pics so far:

Cool. I'd probably just use the getrag 282 5spd though. Plenty dependable with lots of power and a whole lot of less work to custom fab up. Are you looking into the LS1 pistons for higher compression?
I think there is one other person with a yellow indy who is going to build up a 3900 as well.
Who will be the first to have a 3900 running in an older FWD??? It's a race!

6-speed ftw!
I wish I would of done that kinda. Plus the intermediate shaft bolts perfectly to the 3500/3900 block..

I also agree, the 6 speed even with the fab work needed is a much better option. WAY more available and much newer, you don't start with something thats more than 12 years old and try to beat the hell out of it.
And hell if your already doing a 3.9 VVT go all out with the rest

Re: LZ9 prep and future install.
I have thought about going to a 6-speed. Once my auto goes out on the L67.

I've meant to ask this... Are you running a 4t65e?ROLNGTZ wrote:I have thought about going to a 6-speed. Once my auto goes out on the L67.
If so, DON'T go 5-speed or 6-speed... you can make the 65e's SO strong and quicker than any 5-speed out there. Plus you'll have less traction issues in the end due to higher yet more usable gear ratios. 1st is useless in any 5-speed or 6-speed application with a 3400... never mind what it would be like with a beefy 3800
SO unless your going for the coolness factor and like to just drive a stick, I would stay with the auto. Sticks are good for auto-x and such, not 1/4 stuff.

Thanks for the info. Come in useful for later. I do have the 4t65e.3X00-Modified wrote:I've meant to ask this... Are you running a 4t65e?ROLNGTZ wrote:I have thought about going to a 6-speed. Once my auto goes out on the L67.
