How to paint your car for $75.00

Post by Styluss »

I recently just finished painting my car myself, at home, in my driveway.
I used a foam brush and some Rustoleum from Home Depot... No, really.
Total cost of the project was $72.40 and it took about 10 days of my time.
The final result is amazing to say the least. Dont get me wrong, it is not perfect, but for $72.40 I would say it is a damn good job.
What do you think?

Here is a link to the write up on how I did it:

Styluss Customs - Poor Man's Paint Job

I know some of you may have seen the $50 Paint Job out there, this is different. Yes, it uses some of the same principles, but an entirely different technique to help eliminate the need for excessive sanding. What you see here is NOT sanded and NOT polished in any way. I simply let the paint dry, washed it and waxed it.

I figured some of you might want to throw a coat or 2 on your rides. It really is an easy, inexpensive way to bring some new life back to your car!!

Styluss,
You did an outstanding job there. It looks great. This gives me hope that I can get my flaking, chipping white 88 GT back into some decent shape, so it doesn't look like a P.O.S. I am going to have to take my chipped flaking paint down to the primer due to adhesion problems.

Would I be alright just lightly sanding my existing primer (not breaking thru to bare metal) to make sure that the rustoleum adheres like it should? Is there more than one shade of rustoleum white? If so, which one did you use?

I'll clean this up and get it pinned. I didn't realize this ever made it over here.

There are brush strokes you can see in the paint. But for the cost, pretty good.

I don't recommend this if Its your baby, have a ton of money wrapped up in your car already, or EVER intend to have your car professionally sprayed.

Those are the GTU/INDY/ W26 GT 16'' wheels, and they come with the smooth center caps, the similar 15's (like yours) and 14's do not.

I thought about re-painting my 88 GT as it is not as "BLACK" as the pink and black 95.....My dad has painted cars this way before and told me to get some black rustoleum and he'd paint it for me....I have seen many cars painted this way and have to say they do look nice!!! Your car looks VERY nice Ryan!!!! can't wait to see it at Bfest 2011!!!

It's not as black because it's probably metallic. That's how my '89s factory paint was.
