WANTED: 2.3/2.4 or 2200 TB Spacer

Post by Koots »

Looking for a TB spacer from the 2200 (98+ 2.2L OHV) or the 2.3/2.4 DOHC engines.

Gonna be making a custom TB mount for my 95 2.2L and figured I'd throw out to see if anyone "accidentally" bought one and now they don't know what to do with it...WELL, I know a good idea...SELL IT TO KOOTS! :Bravo:

I'll be making a custom upper manifold + top-feed injector conversion for my 95 that will allow me to use the removable TB's from the aforementioned engines. I'm thinking about quickly welding in an angled mounting plate, then weld the spacer in place for mounting the TB and then I can actually start to modify the hell out of this little engine.

I'm assuming that the 2.3/2.4 have the same style of TB, which I hear they do they are just larger over the newer versions.

So if you wanted one, you can try using one from a Z24 Cavalier/Sunfire GT. They even make them with built in "Power-Ports" which is a fancy way of saying a place to stick a nitrous nozzle. I believe it's only AIRAID and OBX that make them anymore, the OBX is cheaper, but only 1/2" thick and the AIRAID versions are 1" and thicker.

BUT they are soo expensive for something that does very little to a port injected engine. They are great for adding nitrous or water/meth injection without drilling into your stock manifold though.

I think both of those have twists in them and that slows the air flow. You would have to mill those out.

Thanks for the tip, but that was already part of my plan. I can't leave fine enough alone, so almost everything gets a little time with the die-grinder, hand files and sandpaper nowadays. I was supposed to be working on getting the car running the other night and ended up spending 2 hours porting and polishing my stock, built-in TB.

Once I realized what I was doing (ADHD), I dropped it and moved on to something else lol

Thought so on the plan. You know I've spent a large amount of time sanding and polishing TB's. Every now and then I start thinking about reworking a 2.4 TB for the GF's car. Sure did help on the Ecotec.

I've got a 2.4L 97 Malibu for free (locked up motor) but it has proven to be very useful for parts. I'll be using it's TB for this project. That and a top-feed injector conversion from a 98+ 2200 will give me easily upgradable TB and injectors.

I think my best bet, from trying to find a used TB, is to find a 2.3 aluminum manifold and cut it up to work on my planned 2.2L manifold project.
