Beretta GTZ engine

Post by tvc3-gtz »

Looking for the quad four for my 1990 GTZ. I have toys and cash I could trade for the right deal. Looking to get my car running this summer, but the block seized when the oil pressure dropped last year (oil pump went). Can't get it to turn with my biggest breaker bar on the crank, so quickly checking my options here while shopping locally at salvage for this motor.

I need the car because it's way more economical than my mustang and its way better in the winter. My hopes eventually are to store both my mustang and this together in the garage, but until then I need to get this running first.

I tried all the do it yourself fixing trick, and the engine is STUCK. I am aware of the process of rebuilding as well, and if it comes to that so be it, but id much rather drop a running one in, as it would save me a lot of time and hassle if I can find one. Thanks in advance.

(PS) I am aware I have posted randomly here throughout the past 6 months, I am much closer to the position I need to be now to fix this car. I just barely missed a nice black GTZ on ebay, the guy got a deposit right when I was about to send him an offer. ( bummer because I wouldv'e taken that existing engine and thrown it right into my nice GTZ's chassis, then probably would've sold the body to someone here for parts.)

Keep your eyes on the Q4 site. Some guy said that he had an engine for sale. Also there is a GA that is parting out.

The blocks are the same, that's it - The HO pistons are different than the SOHC pistons.

Seriously, I know you've been looking for months, but suck it up and BUILD YOUR ENGINE already! I bought my car in January with no engine and have already rebuilt the engine from the ground up, installed it and it runs. It's not that hard. I brought my bottom end, still assembled, to the machine shop and for $400 got the entire thing torn down, polished crank, new bearings, new piston riings and EVERYTHING was cleaned, block was painted and it was put back together. After that, it was a matter of buying a gasket kit, water pump, oil pump and timing set. Assuming your head is good, you can have it back together in a week or two.

I can't figure why you are still looking for some donor engine (a 20+ year old engine, at that) when for virtually the same money, you could have a fresh rebuilt Quad4HO! Seems like a no brainer to me. :fool:

if his engine is blown the block may not be any good depending on what went, i offered to pull a quad 4 from the yard for him, would have been $300 picked up. but all it was is a complete ho quad 4. no gurantee it ran or anything else. but its a good start for a build and still fairly cheap for an h.o. quad 4. a few years ago i could find a quad 4 h.o in the yard about once every 3 to 4 months. now, im lucky i see 1 a year

you can also try car-part.com and have one shipped to you ground frieght. between the engine and shipping your looking at about a grand probably, and if your going to do that, i would source out a w41 quad 4.

He lost his oil pump... The worst that could have happened is seized the rod or crank to the bearings.

I doubt the block is trashed unless he spun the main's but that's quite hard to do.

anything is possible in a quad. even then its redoable. as long as nothing went through the block. a crank and bearing kit, new lifters, timing chain, oil pump and gasket set should run you about $800-$1000. so then you just need to ad cost of a new clutch(may as well do it when its out), piston rings, and if you want valve seals and springs. with that, you will have a full rebuild, all new internals, and a quad thats reliable and dependable for another 100,000 miles.

if you want a built motor ready to drop in and go, talk to draftin on quad 4 forums. he's your go to man, and he's in buffalo new york

i can get you a running high output quad 4. it has 150,000 on it, your looking about $500 for the motor, complete. if you want to do that, send me a pm, you will have to put a $300 deposit down before i even pull the engine from the car. once its pulled you can pay the $200 and take it home with you. another $200 i'll toss in the 3.94fdr transmission.
