Old time member returning

Post by oldtimer88 »

Ok... ooooold time member I was on this board in the late 90's then dropped off checking back in (I can't remember my old name) so I chose a new one. I remember some old time names like Dave Holst and Rex Weatherford (at least I think these were their names... not sure if any of the really "old" members are still around. After about 13 years in storage I'm getting my car back on the road (long story there for another day) not sure how much activity is here as these cars are getting pretty old now. My car "only" has 129k on it which isn't bad for a 26 year old car. The lowdown on my car.... I have a Black 88GT with a 5 speed, digi dash (that works) car has NO power options which is weird for a digi dash car. I spent a lot of stupid young kid money back in the day. I added Z26 seats NOS GTU rims and a GTU spoiler, (never got around to geting all the rest of the GTU parts to finish), walker cat back exhaust and koni struts and shocks and a Z51 rear sway bar (I wrote the tech article thats still up)..... well that sums up the car. I'll have to check back in and see whats going on here....

Holy crap, Matt M! I remember you... I drove to the Milford Proving Grounds once to meet up with you and watch you autocross. Probably in 1999 or 2000.

A lot has changed since those days; Rex sold his car but still hangs around on the forums and even made a guest appearance at BFest this past year in Denver, CO. Holst hasn't been around for several years but some of his cars are still around (one within the group). Choate left the scene but recently came back, so has Adam Mufford with his original 92 GTZ (the one that bounced around to Belgium with him and back).

Just to let you know, if you're interested and able to do so by then, BFest 2014 will be in Pigeon Forge, TN. We will be hitting the Tail of the Dragon while we're there.

Welcome back!

At this point just to get back on road. I just finished a complete tune and I replaced every part in the cooling system My original rad had a small crack in one side tank it wasn't leaking but didn't want to chance so I found a NOS radiator for a deal and put it in and replaced every with GM parts. I think I got the last ones in the world on a few of them.... Had to replace all brakes also and I'm having someone look at the AC system as I'm moving south and will want AC. Plan to put a new windshield in too as there is a chip I've lived with since I got the car.

After that when I get some time I need to address the headliner as its toast (I plan on a temp fix so I can at least drive car) and I bought a used mint dash about 10 years ago and plan to put it in at some point.

Otherwise just plan to drive... I have too many other cars that I want to work on.

Hmm I totally forgot about that.... that was a LONG time ago. Lot has happened since then... no longer work for GM. When they went through banko they decided they didn't need me anymore. Worked at a Chevy dealer for a while and found a better job at another automotive manufacture... let’s just say it’s a German company....
Moved around a bunch for GM and now the new guys… Just got a promotion and moving down to South Carolina which may not be far from you? Reason I am getting the car running is with my new job I lose my company car so I need a car to bomb back and forth to work. Good thing I kept it.... On a side note my wife hates the car and has wanted me to get rid of for the last few years but now she is glad we don’t have to go buy/lease a car! ;-)
I have a bunch of other cars (Camaro, Chevelle, 31 ford and a volt) so I’m not into the Beretta like I used to be. I am having fun getting it going. For a while I was on a S10 kick and was buying and flipping S trucks but I always kept the Beretta.
Will have to see might try and make Bfest… but like I said we will be moving from Des Moines later this year when we sell our house there. So not sure but you never know.
I think I see a few other people from the past post so its interesting… I’m surprised Dave sold all his cars…. He was the like #1 Beretta fan in the world…

I will say welcome back, even though your presence here far pre-dates mine. I am one of the many (?) bstuff orphans from several years ago that finally crawled back into the light. I would love to see some pics of your car -non-power windows in a black digi-dash GT?? Sounds like something I would have ordered myself, if I ever bought a new car... Very cool, in my opinion. :pardon:

Hope to see you around more on the site. It has been pretty dead around here lately, and not picking up either. Maybe Spring time will see some more activity though. :Search:

Oh god no... nothing is available for these cars anymore... it's worse than trying to restore a Model A... They discontinued them a long time ago and I had to retrofit my car with J-body front inserts with custom spacers since they are bit smaller in DIA, and the rear is Thunderbird shocks... And now both of those applications are discontinued LOL. The only option for older years are the Saab rear shocks which I think amazingly are still out there and then they might be able to use a Mitsubishi front insert since the J-body guys say that fits theirs and just compresses a bit further than the others, same extended length I believe.

Actually restoring a model A is quite easy... everything is available repo.... now quality isn't the best but youcan buy literally every part. I should know I'm doing one now.

I think as time marches on these cars will be hard to keep going with less and less part support.... :(

Yep, Greenville isn't very far from me at all. Maybe 2 hrs away?

I've been living in the Charlotte, NC area for the last 8 years. I'm not surprised you don't work for GM anymore; not many do. The old plants in downtown Lansing where the Alero/Grand Am and CTS were made are all torn down now (I only bring that up because IIRC you worked for the Lansing distribution hub or something like that way back when).
