Do want to go big or just small stuff? You have a 3100, the 3.1 is not the same. 3X00 is one of the guys you can talk to about going for the big stuff(3400 swap, cam, heads, OBD2 swap and trans work). There are a few others that have done that also, but he is here the most. The little things that I've done to my 3100 are 3400 top end swap, high flow cat, high flow muffler and it will soon get a CAI. Underdrive crank pulley and an alt overdrive pulley are on the way also. Oh, and an adjustable vac modulator for the trans to make it shift a little faster and harder(helps more than you would think and costs around 10 bucks).

You can either give it pep or a bang :) I opted for a bang.

Pep can be achieved by replacing your exhaust from the manifold back, yes that means getting some sort of new downpipe made... the factory one is 1 5/8" inner diameter... talk about a choke hold. 2 1/4 is a good size system for these cars, get a high flow cat and if your looking for all the power you can get all the time then opt for a straight through style muffler. I went with a chambered muffler because I love the sound they make, and when I'm at the dragstrip I run open headers so it doesn't matter what my exhaust is comprised of.

The next thing would be a CAI from Styluss, they are the best way to help the top end breathe... Also as MPB mentioned a 3400 top end will wake up a 3100 any day too. I ran my stock 3100 in my old 95 Beretta for up to 215k miles, but I did a top end at 150k with 3400 parts and it extended its life as far as power goes. When I got to 215k I had some ring seal issues that was robbing power so I just did a completely rebuilt 3400.

Now as discussed above my 96, is a 3400 bottom end, 3500 heads and intakes, S&S headers, WOT-Tech custom cam, Comp 986 springs, 3 angle valve job, gasket matching, polished combustion chambers, 65mm TB, and on top of all of that the 100 shot of nitrous thats coming this year. I've already done a 13.9 and consistent 14.1's with it naturally aspirated... I'm hoping for a low 13 on the bottle this year.

Oh and yeah, out of all of this I've done the "impossible" and kept my 4t60e automatic alive and didn't take the easy way out for speed and swap to a 5-speed... If you ask me a 5-speed and nitrous does NOT mix well... I think I would have way too many issues with traction and such running with that much juice.

Hey 3X00, is there any way that you can pin your great pics of where to grind the rockers and intake for the 3400 top end swap?

Yeah I could if you want..

Do you have a good write up for the swap? I don't have time to do one right now but I can definately pin something and supply pictures to a write up.

For a "bolt on" topend swap, use 3400 or 2000+ 3100 heads too. They already have the accomidations for the roller rocker which clear the intake fine.

5-speed swap the easy way out... Ill keep quiet

Nah, I don't remember what I did two days ago, let alone what I did on the swap 3X00. Get rid of my last two posts here please.

Heres some pics I found of my old ground LIM. I sold it because I never used it but I did mock it up and it fit.

Yes but if you don't want to do heads then you still need to clearance the 2000+ parts. Not everyone wants to invest in head gaskets and having the surfaced (if your doing it properly) and so on... And yes 5-speed swap is an easy way, but not on a 96 if you can't tune (SES light FTL!) and have never done heavy modifications... Not everyone knows how to weld and such.

Yeah, a 5-speed swap is not that easy on a 92+ V6.

I would rather take a 5-speed 2.2 and swap in a V6.
