lbody headers...
copied from 60degreev6.com...
Well the time has come, and I have been planning on making some l-body headers for a while and a couple of the members here have stepped up to the plate so this can become a reality!
MY91GT(Z) has sent me the modified headers he bought from johnnymossville.
Sorry 91GT, but being sick last weekend, all I did was lay in bed
So. I have the headers here at the shop now, and got them bolted to a spare block and heads I had here. Come to find out the headers I started tacking together were on the right track! A little different in the routing, but the primaries were almost in the same exact position.
Now, I need more help from the Beretta/Corsica owners. The S&S's are still standing quite a ways off the front head and appear to me that they won't clear a stock fan. Can someone measure the distance from the fan motor to the front head where it meets the block (maybe even a pic)? I know loner's turbo headers I built used exactly 1/2 of a u-bend (about the same as the S&S), and we had to swap his fan out.
I might take some pics with my cell phone, but really would rather wait till I have my wife's digi with me (mine crapped the bed).
Here's what I had started a while ago...

I'm looking to sell these for about $500-550 coated (maybe via Ben's store).
Stay tunes for more pics. Today I am cleaning up the welds and getting all the measurements taken, and will probably start on the jig to make them consistent
-John
PS. I'm the guy that made Loner's turbo kit

Re: lbody headers...
I have a set of headers that need to be re-made that for sure fit a 5-speed V6. They have just around 30" primaries and fit all under the hood with a crossover and all.
They're about 17 years old and age has taken it's toll on them, but the design looks to be killer.

Re: lbody headers...
S&S will not clear the "older" fans (mine is a '92), but I just cut off one of the 4 spokes and it's fine, and still seems plenty strong enough.
I "think" the newer fans, which are narrower are OK.
And the wider bend is probably preferable as to air flow.
You are going to have to watch #1 (Passenger side rear) for clearance on a 3t40. There is a hump on the trans that doesn't present itself on a 4t60e or 5-speed.

Re: lbody headers...
Well, this pic is from the original owner/creator of them when they were new...

I can snap a couple more of them from all angles though.

Whose were those? Those are some nice long tubes... They fit and clear everything?

MY91GT(Z), again, I am sorry about the delay, but opening a new shop took 2 weeks out of my life
Here's what I got as of about 20mins ago when home...

Re: lbody headers...
That's pretty nifty... One thing I would suggest, if at all possible, shorten up the length of the rear header because I know it drops down almost too low... You should mock that in a body to see how low the bend after the collector is, and you may realize you have 3-4 inches you can work with as far as bringing it closer to the tunnel. I know mine is low, but I got it high enough to not rub... Eric, and Eric didn't do all the same collector modifications I did so theirs are a little bit lower than mine, it was something I couldn't do not having it in a car.
What set of headers was that?? wondering who modified them, looks just like all my cuts
but I know where the three of those sets I did reside.

Re: lbody headers...
They were from "johnnymossville".
This pic shows how much higher mine could be... although I did chop them and weld on my own flange, so it may not be a good example for you.

Re: lbody headers...
Agreed! Mine could have been about 3" shorter and would have given me alot more clearance. And an not so severe bend to mate it all up.

Re: lbody headers...
I ended up pretty good but that was because I chopped up the collector to make it bend more... I'm surprised the exhaust shop didn't do that for Eric, and I'm surprised Woody didn't try that.
After I cut up the collector and then welded on the chop of the 45 pipe, it made a good bend that ended up working well... It touches the sway bar when the car is in the air, but its got about 1/2 to 3/4" clearance when the car is at ride height.
In my Header modification thread you can see what the header itself looks like.
