rising compression

Post by jkh6868 »

Hey people I've been doing research into run alt. fuels . My query here is can a 2.8, 3.1 0r 3100 be built to handle 12;1 compression?
I was lookin to drive it for economy So Low - mid power is the end result I was looking for . If so how? Or should I b e lookin at a different motor.
I'm lookin to build this from the ground up if i have to .
Keeping in mind I was also looking to change the Final drive to the lowest ratio final gear I can match to it.

Check out 60degreev6.com there is a store attached to that site WOT-Tech.com which sells diamond forged pistons that you can up the CR on, but possibly only up to 11.5:1, I'm not positive on if they have them for the 2.8 and 3.1, but I know they have them for the 3100 and 3400's. Going that high in compression you'll probably want ARP head studs, and the Cometic MLS head gaskets to ensure you don't have a HG failure.

EDIT* he has a "custom" CR option so you can probably get 12:1 if you want.

LPG? You going to put the tank in the trunk?
2.8/3.1 have more low end power than a 3100/3400. As for the lower FDR the man to talk to is the one that made the first post. He is the auto trans god here. Though with the 3.1 or 2.8 you have a 3sp lock up and not a true 4sp auto that comes with the car. The 3100 cars have the 4sp.

Depending on what year he has though he could have a 4t60e... He didn't state that his car is equipped with the MPFI motor.

There is also the ability to find and use a 4t60 NON electronic version and you'll gain the Over Drive gear but it will be controlled the same way as the 3t40 is, so you can install it into an older pre 94 car without having to re-wire or add a control ecm.

I think I've found my answers @ 60'degreeV6. If I was to take the pistons of a rwd motor that aren't dished & mount 3#00 heads that will get me up to to where I want to be.
I'll bee using the ARP bolts & Cometic MLS head gaskets for sure.
Seeing how I don't intend to push the motor(street or track race)It should stand the pressure. Also my fuel will work is internal "cooling"
If you guys are wondering I'm going to mist water into my engine . check it out
