Does anyone know if this would work

Post by Thompson128 »

Basically i was sitting thinking to myself, yeah 3.1's are cool 3.4's and 3.8's are really nice, but they still sound like a v6. so i was just pondering, what is fwd with a v8. I was wondering if a 4.6 Cadillac northstar v8 would fit in the beretta or if anyone has seen it done.

Not that I know of. There is a FWD LS engine out there, but there will be fabed mounts with that. A 3.8 has been done a few times and it needs fabed mounts too. The 3400 is a drop in for a 3100 car.

I think the 4.9 would fit in a beretta quite well , but... it will be owned by a 3500 easy.

Get in touch with NastyEllEssWon. We've talked about this possibility for quite a while now. And I know that he has a lot of info saved up on what would need to be done to make a FWD LSX car if your seriously interested in doing something like this.
Mostly you meet friends when traveling by accident, like by sitting next to them on the train, or in a restaurant, or in a holding cell.

I've always enjoyed the Oldsmobile Aurora's 4 liter v8. That's a badass sounding engine, and those were fwd.

I've also kicked around the idea of the 5300 fwd engine from the newer Monte SS and Grand Prix whatever model. But that engine is a wide, or long, depending on how you look at it. I think by the end of that swap you'd have hacked out most of the strut towers and widened the track width of the front end.

A 3500 is an amazing package.
Mid 13's and 26 mpg even with a 3:73 FDR.
There are VERY few mid 60's muscle cars that will come close.

Anything is possible... it just takes time and lots of money, and lots of brains when your mixing and matching applications like that. You need to take a lot of things into consideration when doing it.

And who said a V6 can't sound like a V8... :runsies:

Linky...

I get looks all the time about it and people ask if it's V8 swapped. My cam is a little more agressive lope wise in comparison to say Asylum's who's got some good N/A times, but thats due to the fact that I had mine ground to like nitrous and not so much just n/a.

Northstar fits. There are two cars I've seen pics of with it in them.

There is a Monte Carlo in Hot Rod this month with a turbo LS engine with a 4T65E and one of the main issues is keeping the trans alive. They said something about killing 2 or 3 trannies already and engineering billet parts for the latest build.

There is a Cavy up here in Ontario with a Northstar and a 5-speed, but he doesn't drive it much and has never raced it to my knowledge. So yes, it will fit.

GM Performance division kept a 4t65e together in their blown GTP's that were turning 9's... So for what I want to do with it I think the over the counter parts from Raybestos will probably suffice since they already are with the 4t60e.

I'm not trying to build something that puts down 500 WHP or something.
