Is it easy to Turbo a 2.8 Beretta? Performance mods?

Post by GTU89 »

Is it easy to turbo/supercharge the 2.8 V6 in a 1989 Beretta GTU? Is there any other performance mods for these cars? the only mods I know of on my car are a Cold Air Intake and a punched out cat.

Easy/hard is really relative to your automotive skills and knowledge. For some it is not too bad of a job. Considering you listed punched out cat as a performance mod, I would say a forced induction setup would be a challenge and you should research it further.

check out www.wot-tech.com for some other performance part ideas.

you could redo the full exhaust system with a high flow car and muffler, maybe slightly bigger pipe. I cant remember if 3400 headers will fit on the 2.8 or not... that will not give you a huge gain but its a gain.

Easiest performance mod would be to upgrade your engine to a 3400. If you absolutely need to turbo the 2.8 I say start with looking up a McClaren Grand Prix and using that for a baseline for info. Wouldn't be to hard to bolt all that junk up to your 2.8. If you're asking if there is a mass produced turbo kit for your car then the answer is NO.

Or buy a chip for the computer. That'd be a good cheap mod for your 89

Not much can be done to the 2.8/3.1 due to the restrictive intake/heads. You can "hybrid" the 2.8/3.1 with the 3400 heads and intake to make it breathe better, but that is just as much trouble as doing a 3x00 swap. Or you can do some homework over at 60degreev6.com and do some little things that can help, if only a little bit, but those "little" things will require the engine to come out. And i agree with Barry when he said "Considering you listed punched out cat as a performance mod, I would say a forced induction setup would be a challenge and you should research it further".

And i disagree with you Kris. I feel the chip that i got from WOT-Tech did help. And seeing that temp gauge only climb to just over the 1/4 mark and stay there was money well spent...IMO.

Alright I didn't know if there were any factory turbos that would bolt up fairly easy to this car. Not a problem though, I already got my performance fix (70 LeMans with a hopped up 455) Another question, and I'll post up a pic of the car then to show its ride height, how do beretta's do in the snow? the front lip is a 1 to 2-ish inches or so from the ground, probably have to remove the front lip? (Air dam under the bumper)

Oh, and i posted the punched out cat as a performance mod because its the only performance "mod" other than the CAI. Do the strut tower bars out of a cavalier help much?

Oh, and no to the NOS lol, no blown up engine for me haha. (although I guess a turbo could blow it up too)

its easy. just go to the tgp forums to locate the parts. guys on this forum think the shits worth gold and its really not. bolt it up, take it to an exhaust shop for the downpipe (prob cost ya a hundred bucks) and email ben from wot-tech to burn you a chip to run the turbo motor (use the same tune from the tgp) and you're done. dont let these fools make you think its impossible and cant be done.
