Its just for the cool factor, no performance gain, and a little more weight.

However, 2 smaller pipes flow like one larger pipe. So dual 2 inch exit would flow moe cfm than one 2.5 inch pipe(just an example)

This is just for dual exits. A true dual( 2 cylinders per side) would be just retarded...

it depends on how modified your engine is.

kinda hard to do "true" duel exhaust on a transverse mounted engine    Not like a rear wheel drive vex that u just hook up 2 pipe to the 2 exhaust manifolds... If you do it, just do it for the cool factor. everyone loves dual exhaust... But I havent heard any good rumbly 4 bangers   (no offence quad fans)
95' Z26 Beretta- 3400, 282, exhaust. Lots of upgrades still in boxes...
79' Z28 Camaro- Not street legal- 12-1 compression, etc.
S. Comp. Dragster- DEI 350, 600 hp @ 5600, I take it to 7400.

You would have to fab two , two piece headers and then run the duals. Pretty much bottom line? You'd have to be running an insane amount of power to even make it worth it and even then it would be pretty much pointless. So, just do a single into a dual for coolness sake. There are virtually NO power or torque gains to be had from a "true dual" I4 exhaust.
