Accessory Delete Mods??

Post by theSLEEPER »

Hey guys...

Is it a bad idea to get rid of the accessories? I'm thinking power steering, AC, and anything else?

I see 3X00-Modified has a AC delete setup. Is this one- off? Or can I buy one?

And did he reinstall the power steering pump after this picture? Is it even possible to delete the power steering without major modification?

I drove mine for a while yesterday without it... Not a big deal at all. IMO, but I don't know if it'll cause too much strain on the steering components.

unless your using the ac, your not losing much if any hp, nothing noticable to say the least, your best bet is to just leave it alone, no ps sucks major, especially in the winter, you will struggle to turn your wheel and its dangerous in the snow unless you do it properly and make it manual steering.

Only accessory I have left is alternator.

If you have dropped your suspension, running without power steering causes massive bump steer that is intolerable on bad roads. Trust me I know.

Since our tie-rods use upside-down mounting, there are no ready bump steer kits on the market, I am making one-off this winter for my car.

Other than that, tight parking places are thing I'd avoid (since you basically must have the car moving to turn the tires, unless you go like 4x revolutions steering that would suck big time), so I cannot recommend this to daily driver car.
Other than those, it works great.

maybe if your a weakass that can't lift a gallon of milk.

if you do a lot of parking lot driving then it wouldn't be fun but you would strengthen your arms pretty quick.

weba, did you plug the PS on your steering rack or swap to a Cavalier manual rack? I wonder if the manual one has different characteristics to compensate for no assist.

A/C bypass is about $30 on RockAuto, DORMAN Part # 34217

Good info here. My only reason for doing this would be mpg... I don't drive the car to many places. It drives to work, is parked once, is driven home and parked, and repeat. Sometimes I take it to various places. If the bump steer is that bad, then I'll just skip it all together, but I really didn't notice much issue at all yesterday. (My idler locked up and I drive home on no belt. Surprisingly, it didn't overheat, but I did coast and let it cool a few times. The power difference was very much notable.)

Thanks for the AC delete info!

I did this in my 96 for like 2 months because i didnt want to spend money on a new pump and eventually found one at the wreckers off another beretta.

it wasnt too bad on the highway, but trying to get in and out of places in a parking lot was a pain. it sort of worked though once the engine reved up some it would work sort of. was a pain though i wouldnt want to drive with nothing at all.
