Wheel hub bearings - buy them on ebay?
Wheel hub bearings - buy them on ebay?
I need a new front wheel bearing and looked around and found some good prices ones on ebay and i wonder if they are worth it to buy them. I dont want to buy crap... I also looked on rockauto and you dont have much bearing to choose there. So these on ebay are kinda interesting since i get both for the price for one on rockauto.

Search under Axle bearing and Hub Assy... There are plenty of choices, and remember you get what you pay for. I wouldn't trust two sealed hubs for $55
If you can find a deal on ebay for some Timken ones thats not bad.

For parts where the quality really matters, you should rather take the highest priced over the lowest or medium priced choice. As a general rule.. I got Timkens for the blue one at that time.
Anyways, on our cars wheel bearings are not a closed assembly, they need to be sealed properly with grease, or they wont last.

They are a sealed bearing, what you need to pay attention to is most from the factory do not come with an inner axle seal on the knuckle and the replacement ones typically do. If you install that seal you will ensure longer life.
I've never heard of sealing properly with grease so I'm not sure what you mean by that too.

I know again how some might say these are on the cheap, but they are the best ones I have ever used. Tried every aftermarket one from all the shops around me. I use these on all my berettas and jbodys. I would recommend them but that's my own personal opinion. A lot of people skip out the step of installing the rear seal in the steering knuckle. Be sure to install the new 30mm axle nut and USE a torque wrench on the nut to OEM spec. Makes a HUGE difference on the life of your bearing

You recommend that over Timken brand? and you've tested Timken and had them fail on you?

I have never used a Timken brand, only used brands available at the shops around me in Canada. These aftermarkets bought from this seller on ebay have been fantastic, but I am only speaking of my personal experience. I run them on all my 5 cars and my parents car. In total 4 cavaliers and 2 Berettas. I don't run a modified car though, maybe its different when you do.

FWIW, I've bought bearings from eBay before, and had them fail in 4000 miles. Granted, these were 99+ N-body bearings, but still.

Re: Wheel hub bearings - buy them on ebay?
Well after looking for Timken, i have to say the price is not bad at all. Sure its alot more than the ebay ones but i have to look for the shipping costs too, so the Timken are just some bucks more. In Germany i get one no-name hub for the price of two Timken or Raybesto hubs, even with shipping.
Thanks guys.
And GTZfan, just to say, i dont think the most expensive parts are better quality than some cheaper parts. I already have made my experiences with some parts that should be the best quality cause they are expensive as hell and they werent.

I think N bodies go through wheel bearings faster than L bodies.

I've had no problems with mine... Ensuring the axle nut is torqued to 175ftlbs is a very important detail though.

Correct installation is key.
Kevin, don't forget my car is lighter than a GA.
