Motor is shot!

Post by Beretta Z26 »

Hey everybody got a problem here.  My 3100 motor decided it wanted to drop a valve in the #4 cylinder, The motor has 160,000+ miles on it and was wondering what a good motor to replace it would be. I'm on a tight budget right now so she'll have to sit until i get me another job.
Just lemme know what other motors i can put in my baby to get her back on the road.
Thanx, Mr.Jeff

both should be a direct swap but the 3400 would be the easier one for u to swap w/o havin to worry bout much of anything as 3500 needs lil more tuning to run decent

3500 needs tuning, needs more external bolt on parts to drop in and needs bracket fabrication for any transmission that you end up using.

3400 bolts right in with all the 3100 accessories...

Pick your poison.

Sorry 3500 guys, but the 3400 will still and ALWAYS be the direct swap alternative for a 3100... If you are going performance then yes maybe the 3500 fits the bill but right now its about $300+ in external bolt on parts and modifications to make it fit and work at all... nevermind tuning afterwards.

External crank trigger, TB adapter, larger TB since a 3100 one on a 3500 is just stupid, larger fuel injectors since 3100 ones will not support a 3500, and 3500 injectors cant be used, and  custom vac lines are needed and so on... I'm sure I'm missing something.

do a hybrid (3400 with 3500 Intake and heads); best of both worlds! at my local junkyard you can get the engine out and replace junk heads and intake with goodies for nothing extra, look for someplace like that, a self serve place. or do what im doing, 2800!

So for this 3400/3500 hybrid, will everything like my acc. and everything still bolt up? Am i going to need new injectors or do any comp. tuning to make it run right?
